Celebrating Labor Day

Many different cities have different ways of celebrating Labor Day. Cleveland, Ohio celebrates Labor Day with food and flavor and their Taste of Cleveland Festival. In Missouri, Labor Day is marked with numerous fairs, festivals, and concerts; with St. Louis having it’s Big Muddy Blues Festival and Kansas City celebrating its Irish Festival. One of the largest Labor Day celebrations takes place in New York, where the Brooklyn Carnival is celebrated with Caribbean music, dancing and food.

But for those of us who don’t have fancy festivals to attend on Labor Day, what is there to do? Well, a lot! You could celebrate it by spending time with family and friends, just relaxing in your apartment. Or maybe you’d just like to enjoy your day off by sleeping in late and watching movies all day.

You could also have a picnic. Find a beautiful park, or open field that you can sit in while you enjoy your meal. But if you don’t live near a park, don’t worry. You can set your picnic up in your back yard or on your patio. If you don’t have either of those, or if it’s raining, have your picnic right in your apartment! Place your spread on your living room floor, grab your food and friends, and have some fun! All you need is a little creativity.

If you’re looking for somewhere to go, consider these places:

Washington, DC – There’re a lot of malls to visit in Washington DC, where you could catch up on some shopping. If you’re not looking to spend extra money, you could visit the Washington Monument (it’s free to go to the top!) or go to the free Smithsonian Museum!

Atlantic City, NJ – The sunny beaches of Atlantic City are free as well. You could also take a stroll down the board walk or visit the wild animals while the thunder roars at the Rainforest CafĂ©.

But let’s not forget the real importance of Labor Day. It’s a day to remember and honor all the men and women who work so hard to keep our country running smoothly. Why not do something special for an earnest worker you know on Labor Day? Perhaps you could pick out something nice for them at Macy’s Labor Day sale!

Have fun!
