With global warming it gets warmer and warmer every summer. It’s important for us all to chip in to help our planet and keep it from becoming a steaming hot sauna. But now that summer is here, and it’s already hot, how do you fight it when you don’t have an air conditioner in your apartment? When the temperature is lower than the 70’s, your best bet is to use a fan. Many stores sell window fans that they sometimes call air flow controls. You could purchase one from many different stores; they sell them at Wal-Mart for $18 to the mid $30’s. Price varies from store to store and from season to season too. Having a couple of these fans in your home and opening a couple of doors to help air circulate can help you cool off. However, when it gets really hot and humid outside, having fans may not be enough. When it’s up around 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside, it may be time to get an air conditioner. Don’t go out and buy just any A/C! You must consider the size of the room you want to cool, and then figure out what kind of A/C you need. A/Cs have different power levels, with the smaller ones usually having 5,000 BTU. These often sell for a little over $100. A 10,000 BTU A/C should be able to cool down a regular sized bedroom and 15,000 BTU A/C should be good enough for a big bedroom or a regular living room. It also depends on the number of people you have in the room and which region of the country you live in. Some regions have very humid summers while others are much dryer.
When you go to buy an A/C, make sure to talk to a store employee and tell them about the room you want to cool down. They may have some good pointers to help you beat the heat.
