Your Security Deposit

The security deposit required by your property manager is usually meant to protect you and themselves from certain kinds of damage that may occur in a leased residence. It is usually one month’s rent or two; a resident usually has to pay for it before even paying their first month’s rent. If the apartment is damaged during the resident’s stay, the property manager usually keeps a portion of the deposit to pay for the fixing expenses.

It’s a nice thing for a resident to clean up their apartment and fix any damages they might have created before moving out of their apartment. It’s also a good way to get your deposit back. Then, you can treat yourself to nice night out, or save the money for a rainy day. You could simply wipe down the windows and mop up the floor or vacuum it. Just try to leave the apartment as neat as you found it, with no trash in it and nice clean walls.

Why not do something thoughtful and help your property manager to help you? It’s rewarding in more than one way.

Good luck!
