Carpet or Wood?

We all have different tastes when it comes to how we like our floors to look. Many apartments these days come standard with carpet somewhere inside. But it still remains a matter of choice. It’s a choice that needs to be made not only depending on taste but also on practicality and convenience. Which is more appropriate for your lifestyle?

Hardwood floors create a high quality look, giving a room a more glamorous appearance. They are also very strong, long-lasting and easy to clean. A slightly damp mop for spills and dirt, and weekly vacuuming should keep your floors looking good as new. It might also be a good idea to have an area rug to protect the wood from scratches. A great number of people have pets, and in that situation, one of the best things to have is wooden floors. Pets can be a handful sometimes, spilling drinks and creating other little disasters. Having wooden floors saves you from the hassle…and cost, associated with constantly cleaning a carpet. Many people with kids also tend to choose the carpet-free environment, because kids happen to spill, leave mud on, write and even paint on carpet. Carpet also sometimes holds allergens and may not be suitable for people who are very sensitive to things of that nature.

But carpet is still really enjoyed by many because of its softness. It can add a sense of homeliness and comfort to a room; it absorbs and contains noise. It’s also soft on feet and feels good in between toes, which can reduce back and leg fatigue. It as well has the wonderful property of insulation, helping keep those cold nights warmer.

When looking for a new apartment, think about what would suit you best. If you’ve already found an apartment you call home, then make good use of your floors, playing up the advantages. Whether carpet or wood, your floors can add character to your apartment. Make the best of them!
