One of the biggest problems while decorating is the size of the space. Most of us do not have the finances to afford some lavish penthouse so we must settle for the quaint apartment. 

Factors such as color choice, furniture, and accessories can either make a room look open and spacious or cluttered and closed. Try to stray away from too many dark colors when choosing a color scheme when decorating your apartment. Dark colors tend to shrink a space. Lighter colors open up a room and give it a larger appearance.  It’s also important to try and match colors. Too many loud, clashing colors and patterns only confine a space. When it comes to color, keep it simple in order to make the room spacious.

Furniture choice and arrangement in will also alter the appearance of a room. More open, airy furniture is best to go with. When arranging the furniture, make sure there is a good flow to the room. Try to create a pathway, not an obstacle course.  Most people have an idea of how they are going to arrange the furniture before they even have it in the room. Don’t be limited to this one idea. Try positioning the furniture at different angles and configuration. Angles can help give the illusion of space. Too many accessories can equal clutter.

The less clutter in a small space the Better. Good decorating pieces to include in a small room are mirrors; they reflect light and can give the impression that a space is larger than it actually is.
